Doctor Who Movie Update
One of the most recent things to come out of last weeks San Diego Comic Con was a interview with Matt Smith and Collider where Matt Smith discussed his role in the potential Doctor Who film.
For my money, whoever is playing the Doctor should be in the movie. I don’t think there should be two Doctors. I think it would take four or five years to get something like that off the ground, and I don’t anticipate that I’ll be playing the Doctor then. My skin and the aging process couldn’t take it. But, I don’t see any reason why it couldn’t work. I think they should get Steven to write it because he’s the best.
From that a number of things can be determined. It would now appear that Matt has most likely got a date set in mind for when he will depart the series (rumours continue that the Fiftieth Anniversary will be Matt Smith’s final episode).
In addition, Steven Moffat has also spoken about the film project and his view on the project being connected to the television show.
There will not come a time when there’s a separate kind of Doctor Who. What was talked about there was that there would be a separate Doctor and a different continuity. Of course it won’t. That would be silly. Everyone knows that’s silly. The BBC knows that’s silly, and is not going to do that.
This statement puts him at odds with David Yates who apparently continues to claim that he is involved with the project and he has stated that he wants the film to be a reboot of the Doctor Who franchise.
My thanks to Doctor Who News for the information.
